Artist statement: Entirely self-trained as a painter, her practice stands out against the orthodoxy of modern art in Europe – in particular, the dominance of a single art school. In her drawings and paintings, Sara utilizes natural materials such as charcoal collected under olive trees, larch and chestnut wood branches’ powder, limestone’s grind crystals, azulene oil, soil, pigments, leaves, flowers, to create site-specific paintings that reflect a relationship between the materials and their surroundings. She also uses oil paints, acrylics, pastels, pens, pencils, and watercolor pencils.
